What SandraStands For
Four priorities that will guide every vote Sandra casts on the Anastasia Mosquito Control District Board.
Effective, Science-Based Mosquito Control
Keeping families safe with evidence-based methods.
Mosquito control is the core mission of the AMCD, and Sandra takes it seriously. Too many St. Johns County families deal with mosquito problems that disrupt outdoor activities, threaten their health, and reduce their quality of life. Sandra will push for a district that is proactive — not reactive — using the best available science to keep mosquito populations in check before they become a problem.
Sandra's Commitments
- Support the research and development of sound, evidence-based control methods with a focus on integrated pest management (IPM).
- IPM is a science-based approach that combines habitat reduction, biological controls, and targeted chemical treatments.
- Ensure the district responds promptly to resident concerns and service requests.
- Invest in modern surveillance technology to target problem areas efficiently.
- Maintain transparent reporting on treatment schedules and methods used.
- Prioritize the safety of residents, pets, and pollinators in all operations.
Transparent, Responsible Use of Public Funds
Your tax dollars at work — and you deserve to know how they're spent.
The AMCD is funded by your property taxes. Sandra believes every dollar spent should be justified, transparent, and directed toward the district's core mission. She will bring a careful eye to the budget process, ask hard questions about expenditures, and make sure residents can easily access information about how their money is being used.
Sandra's Commitments
- Conduct thorough reviews of the district budget to identify inefficiencies
- Make budget documents and spending reports easily accessible to the public
- Require competitive bidding for contracts to ensure taxpayers get fair value
- Oppose unnecessary spending increases without clear community benefit
- Hold the district accountable to its stated mission and goals
Protecting St. Johns County's Natural Environment
Smart mosquito control works with nature, not against it.
St. Johns County is home to beautiful wetlands, diverse wildlife, and natural spaces that define our community. Sandra believes effective mosquito control and environmental stewardship go hand in hand. She will advocate for approaches that target mosquitoes precisely — protecting our natural environment while still keeping residents safe.
Sandra's Commitments
- Prioritize targeted treatments that minimize impact on non-target species
- Protect wetlands, waterways, and wildlife habitats in all district operations
- Support integrated pest management approaches that reduce chemical use
- Work with environmental agencies to ensure compliance and best practices
- Evaluate the ecological impact of all control methods before deployment
Protecting Community Health Year-Round
Proactive prevention and clear communication for every resident.
Mosquito-borne illnesses like West Nile virus, Eastern Equine Encephalitis, and others are real threats in Florida. Sandra will prioritize prevention and community education — making sure residents have the information they need to protect themselves and their families. She will also push for stronger coordination between the AMCD and local public health officials.
Sandra's Commitments
- Increase public education about mosquito-borne illness prevention
- Strengthen coordination with St. Johns County health authorities
- Expand community outreach to underserved and vulnerable populations
- Improve the district website and communication channels for residents
- Publish regular updates on disease surveillance and risk levels
